Showcase keeps track of the movies, shows, games, podcasts and books you care about, and lets you share them with friends. This page says what it keeps, why, who else sees it, and how to take it back. It covers showcase.chat and the Showcase app inside assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT. We don't sell your data and there are no ads.
Signing in with Google
You sign in with Google. Google tells us your name, your email address and your profile photo, and that it really is you. That's all: we don't see your Google password, your contacts, your email or anything else in your Google account, and we don't store a password of our own.
What we keep, and why
- Your account. Your email address, and the name and photo from your Google account, which you can change. Your username, profile and settings. We need these to sign you in and to show your profile.
- Your list. The titles you add, where they stand (want, watching, finished), what you loved, your take on what you finished (one line, shown to the people who can see your profile), your notes, and the lists you make. This is the app.
- Chats with the assistant. What you ask and what it answers, so a conversation can carry on where it left off. We also count how much each answer cost to make, without its words.
- People. Who you follow and who follows you, your reactions to friends' posts, the invites you send and who joined with them, the people you block, and a note each time you share something into Showcase from another app. These make the social side work.
- Reports and feedback. A report you send about someone, and feedback you send us (including any screenshot you attach), so we can act on them.
- Notifications. Your inbox, and for each device where you turn notifications on, the address your browser gives us to deliver them.
- Connected assistants. If you connect an assistant such as Claude to Showcase, the keys that let it in, until you remove them.
How we see what works
To find what's confusing or broken, we look at how Showcase gets used. Showcase's admins see this, and nobody else.
- Recordings of visits. PostHog records the screens you open and what you tap, in the app and the new app, so we can replay a visit. Everything you type is masked before it leaves your device: the chat box, notes, searches and every other field show as blanks. Nothing is recorded on the Delete account screen or while you download your data, and nothing at all if your browser asks sites not to track you.
- Assistant actions. When an assistant such as Claude uses Showcase for you, we note the action and the title it acted on, whether it worked, how long it took, and which assistant and version it was. Never what you said to it.
- Help improve Showcase. A switch at Settings → Your data → Help improve Showcase, on to start. While it's on, when you tell Showcase it got something wrong or right (in its own chat, or to an assistant such as Claude using it), we keep what you said about Showcase and what Showcase had done, never the rest of the conversation. In Showcase's chat, the AI model picks those remarks out of each answer's turn. We also note, with your name, when you undo something soon after doing it: a title removed just after it was added, a move moved back, a search left without a pick, the same thing asked twice. And when you say something lasting about how you watch ("we watch full seasons"), Showcase keeps it as a one-line note, listed at Settings → Your data → What Showcase thinks you like, where you can change or delete each one; only you see them, and Showcase uses them to answer you. Turn it off and we keep only feedback you send us yourself, notes are neither added nor used, and undos are counted per feature, without your name.
- Feedback. The feedback form has a box, ticked to start, that says "Include what you did in this session". Leave it ticked and your feedback carries a link to that visit's recording; untick it and it doesn't.
Who else sees it
- Other people see your profile and list as Who can see you says: anyone, friends (people you follow who follow you back), or only you. To start, it's anyone with the link, signed in or not, and what you add and finish shows in other people's feeds. Change it at Settings → Account → Who can see you, where turning off Share what I'm watching keeps what you add and finish off other people's feeds. A list you make can be opened from its link by anyone who can see your profile.
- Showcase's admins see reports, feedback, what Help improve Showcase keeps, recordings of visits and assistant actions, and, to run the service, each account's email and how much it uses Showcase. The person you report isn't told who sent it.
- The AI model provider (Anthropic, through Vercel's AI Gateway) receives your chat messages and, when an answer needs it, parts of your list, to write the answer.
- The services we run on: Vercel hosts the app and stores uploaded photos and screenshots; Neon hosts the database; PostHog holds the recordings of visits. Your browser's push service (from Apple, Google or Mozilla) carries any notifications you turn on. Google signs you in. Each of these handles your data only to provide its service to us, under its own commitments to keep it safe.
- Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants you connect to Showcase send us what each action needs (a title to add, a question to answer) and receive what Showcase answers. What happens to your conversation there is covered by that company's own privacy policy.
- Catalog services such as TMDB, IGDB, Open Library, Apple Podcasts, Steam and Brave Search receive the titles and searches we look up for you, but not who you are.
We don't send you email, and we use no ad services.
How long we keep it
Everything above stays while you have an account, so your list and your chats are there when you come back. Nothing expires on its own except recordings of visits, which PostHog deletes after a month. When you delete your account it goes, your photo and any screenshots you sent with feedback included, with a few exceptions:
- A report you sent, the count of what assistant answers cost, the counts of undone actions, and a note that you shared something into Showcase from another app stay, without your name.
- A recording of a visit stays until PostHog deletes it, within a month.
Your copy, and deleting your account
Settings → Your data → Download my data gives you a file with your profile, settings, list, lists, activity, who you follow, your reactions, the titles of your chats, and what Showcase thinks you like.
Settings → Your data → Delete account deletes your account and everything listed above, at once. It can't be undone.
Someone you've blocked can be unblocked at Settings → People → Blocked people.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- see what we keep, with Settings → Your data → Download my data, or by asking us for anything that file leaves out;
- correct it: your name, username and photo are in Settings, and everything on your list can be changed where it is;
- delete it, one thing at a time or all of it with Settings → Your data → Delete account;
- say no to what we learn from how you use Showcase, by turning off Help improve Showcase, and to recordings, by asking your browser not to track you;
- ask us about any of this, or complain, at our support address (coming soon). We answer within a month, and using these rights never costs you anything or changes how Showcase treats you. If you're in the EU or UK you can also complain to your data protection authority.
We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising, as California law defines both, and we don't use it to make decisions about you that have legal effects.
Where it's kept, and keeping it safe
Showcase is run from the United States, and your data is stored and processed there. It travels encrypted, access to it is limited to the people who run Showcase, and there's no password of ours to steal. No service is perfectly secure; if something ever goes wrong with your data, we'll tell you.
Children
Showcase is for people 18 and over, and isn't meant for children. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we delete it.
Cookies
Showcase uses only the cookies it needs to sign you in and keep you signed in, and one that holds an invite for half an hour while you join. PostHog keeps an ID in your browser so a visit's recording holds together. No advertising cookies. Your browser also remembers small choices such as light or dark.
